Jimmy’s Bar in Liverpool isn’t a venue I am able to say I’ve had the pleasure of visiting before, but my first impression is that it is the definition of a hidden gem. This bustling bar at the top of Liverpool’s Iconic Bold Street is the last place you’d expect there to be a Metal Concert, but one trip down into it’s basement reveals a venue that almost seems tailor made for this type of show.
Read MoreThis is the second time I’ve been along to Jimmy’s in Liverpool for a gig, and I’ve got to say I’m fond of this place already. The Honeycomb Pale Ale alone is worth a visit! First up are Liverpool’s very own Atanamir. There’s a heavy doom, stoner, sludge vibe with these guys but mixed with enough groove and thrash Metal to keep it fresh and intriguing. In fact, they sound very reminiscent of Crowbar.
Read MoreIt's my first time in Jimmy’s, and my first metal gig back following the lockdowns of the pandemic. I like the vibe in the venue – the staff are welcoming, offering me their own Jimmy’s brews, all served beneath the neon signs and lava lamps flooding the walls. It has the feel of a rock bar, and that’s something you don’t actually see that often these days. Meeting up with Rockflesh overlord Johann, we move downstairs into the gig venue. It's certainly intimate, and has an awesome DIY punk feel to the whole place. I leave Johann to dash down the front as I set-up shop at the back of the room…about five people from the front of the stage still!

Jimmy’s is a cool little basement venue under a bar/restaurant just on the edge of Liverpool’s China Town, which means that there is limited on-street parking nearby which was all full, and an incomprehensible one-way system of little streets that saw us drive past 3 times before we finally found our way to a pay and display within walking distance. Sadly this meant that my enjoyment of openers Attic Theory was restricted to their last song. This was frustrating because on the strength of said song they appear to be a decent band. They have two vocalists, some nice whoa-oh-oh chorus and a hint of Chilli Peppers. Hopefully I will be able to check them out properly at some point.
Read MoreIt’s another bank holiday weekend, and here in this cool little downstairs venue it's the debut appearance of the countries fast rising blues rock soul outfit Buck & Evans. Featuring guitarist Chris Buck and vocalist Sally Ann Evans, they came together over 4 years ago for a one off support gig, the chemistry worked so well they have since developed into somewhat of a sensation. In fact Chris has recently won the 'best guitarist' by Total Guitar magazine amongst many other accolades for this young Welshman.
