Live Review : Alcest + Svalbard + Doodseskader @ Academy 2, Manchester on December 12th 2024

And here we are, yet another intriguing package tour bringing together three bands that exist within this genre but are doing decidedly different and inventive things within its conventions. Alcest, Svalbard and Doodseskader all distinctly exist within our world, but all feel duty-bound to stretch and contort its conservative confines. The former act as headliner for this jaunt, and even though they last dropped anchor in this very room just over 12 months ago, this distinctly unconventional cavalcade draws a mighty impressive crowd for a Wednesday night this close to Christmas.

Live Review : Enslaved + Svalbard + Wayfarer @ Club Academy, Manchester on March 8th 2024

Evolution. The first thing that comes to my mind when viewing a tour consisting of Enslaved, Svalbard, and Wayfayrer. A line up that represents phenomenal histories and past accomplishments but also outstandingly bright futures. Most importantly it showcase that ability to morph and metamorphose as all three bands started in one place but very much transmuted into different entities

Live Review : Svalbard + CLT DRP + Heriot @ Yes, Manchester on November 23rd 2021

Yes’s Pink Room is as you would imagine it, very pink. It feels like some bizarre torture chamber designed to affront the victim with pastel colours. Shading put to one side it is still a strange venue. The stage is carpeted meaning that Serena Cherry’s DM’s leave indentations in it as she stomps around the stage. There is also a nice curtain (pink obviously) behind the stage that makes it feel a working man’s club (one of course with an odd taste in interior design). Finally, it is hidden away, sandwiched between two hipster bars. If you don’t know exactly where you are going it is incredibly easy to miss its almost concealed behind a pink (obviously) door.
