99. Corey Taylor - 'CMFT'
For the uninitiated, Corey’s day job is chief screamer with the juggernaut that is Slipknot. This may well be his first solo record, but Corey is modern metal’s renaissance man. He writes, he does mainstream telly (Doctor Who and QI, no less) and he fronts a Nickelback tribute act (Stone Sour). The interesting thing about “CMFT” is that it sounds like neither of his main bands. This a blatant and unapologetic love letter to the eighties metal that Corey (and I) grew up on. There are shades of Motley Crue, Bon Jovi, blues era ZZ Top and Whitesnake. It an unashamed compilation of songs and styles that he would never get away with in Slipknot (or even Stone Sour) and it’s the unbridled enthusiasm that makes it so fun.
