Live Review : Temple Balls + Straight For The Sun + Seas Of Neptune @ Zanzibar, Liverpool on November 2nd 2024

Tonight we are not in a cellar, which is good. Zanzibar is a decent venue with plenty of space and a good screen so that’s a good start.

Local band Seas Of Neptune kick things off. They play cheerful slightly indie-tinged rock interspersed with a bit of typical dry scouse wit. It’s not outright metal, leaning more towards maybe The Killers or even Arctic Monkeys for inspiration, but it’s hummable and well-performed. At the moment the band are a little raw and unpolished, but with a bit of elbow grease they might turn out to be a gem.

Live Review : M2TM Merseyside Heat 2 @ Zanzibar, Liverpool on April 22nd 2023

After an incredibly successful first heat, Bloodstocks Metal To The Masses Competition returns to Zanzibar for its second round of heats. 3 More bands will once again be in competition for a spot in the regional finals with the ultimate goal of winning a spot at the iconic Bloodstock Festival up for grabs.

First to take the stage are Indigo Horizon. They brought to the table a variety of sound from their heavy Mark Tremonti influences on guitar, to these huge, anthemic Architects inspired choruses that at times wouldn’t have looked out of place on an arena stage.

Live Review : Tailgunner + Guise + The Mick White Band + Riot-Eye @ Zanzibar, Liverpool on July 2nd 2022

Just a mere stone's throw away from the bombastic and chaotic Concert Square, The Zanzibar on Seel Street played host to a spectacular 4 band bill topped by, in my opinion, the hottest new band on the scene; the mighty Tailgunner.

Up first however were mancunian, sleaze punk four-piece, Riot Eye. To put it as simply as I can, they were incredible. A lot of bands would see an empty space and a sparse crowd and allow that to get to them as a result of it appearing that no one wanted to get there early to see them, Riot Eye however absolutely thrived in these conditions.

Live Review : Metal 2 The Masses Merseyside Heat 3 @ Zanzibar, Liverpool on May 13th 2022

Metal 2 the masses, Bloodstock’s gift to small dingy venues the length and breadth of this fair isle (and beyond). In many ways, it represents what we at ROCKFLESH towers are all about, celebrating the rich and diverse talent that exists in our vibrant metal underground. This is Liverpool’s heat 3, Deified has cancelled due to illness but it as still pulled an eager crowd, happy to spend their Friday night watching bands and throwing beer at each other (more about that later).

Live Review : Revival Black (Album Launch) + Novacrow + Dead Rebel + King Voodoo @ The Zanzibar in Liverpool on October 5th 2019

Liverpool. To quote a member of tonight’s headline band “it’s an odd place to gig. Everyone is IN a band so nobody wants to go and SEE a band”. Yep, not tonight though as the sold-out Zanzibar club can attest. So we walk into the dark, red-lit, womb-like space not really knowing what to expect in terms of show or crowd. But hey ho, the drinks are cheap, the toilets are nice and there’s a comfy chair for the Grumpy One; there may even be cake later. Let’s go.

Live : Twisted Illusion @ Zanzibar, Liverpool on February 15th 2018

While currently recording their 3rd album, the Manchester based progrock band, Twisted Illusion find the time to perform over the UK in support of last year's double album "Insight To The Mind Of A Million Faces".

With the support of Liverpool's classic Metallers Midnight Prophecy and Manchester's Voodoo Blood, this gig could only be a gem of an evening.
