Bloodstock Festival Countdown : 30 Bands Not To Miss
6. Satyricon - Sophie Lancaster Stage - Sunday, August 11th 2024
What better way to end the weekend than with authentic Nordic death metal royalty. Formed in 1991 by mainstay duo Satyr and Frost, they have managed to avoid the controversy that has dogged their peers. They have achieved this by concentrating on the music instead of the gimmicks surrounding it. Their sound has evolved over the years, moving into traditional metal terrorties without loosing the individuality and atmospherics that makes Black Metal so enticing.
They have played Bloodstock before, but always with the glare of sunlight taking the edge of the claustrophobia and intensity of their live act. This time it will be dark and under canvas, the perfect setting for the creeping malevolence that underpins their music to stretch its legs. So with material imminent, this is the perfect time for Satyricon to prove why they are the band of choice for Black Metal connaisseurs who choose musical prowess over headlines.
I just love Metal. I love it all. The bombastity of symphonic, the brutality of death, the rousing choruses of power, the nihilistic evil of black, the pounding atmospherics of doom, the whirling time changes of prog, the faithful familiarity of trad, the other worldlyness of post, the sheer unrefined power of thrash. I love it all!
