Bloodstock : 30 Bands Not To Miss - Visions Of Atlantis
12. Visions of Atlantis – Sophie Lancaster stage - Thursday, August 10th – around eight o’clock!!!.
There is always a contingent of the Bloodstock community that bemoans the drift away from power and symphonic metal. The musical demographic has shifted on its axis over the years but the booking of Vision of Atlantis proves there is still room for a bit of bombastic pomp and circumstance. These plucky Austrians I've been doing this for over 20 years. The “this” is big pompous, orchestral metal with an ongoing narrative and choruses the Air Force could quite happily use for manoeuvres. Yes, it's all a bit silly but it's also wonderfully lavish and opulent.
You see that's the wonder of power and symphonic metal. We don't want gritty, brutal and jagged all the time. Sometimes all we crave is extravagant escapism and that's what Visions of Atlantis gives us in absolute lorry loads. So come feel the wonder, come feel the decadence and come lose yourself in the utter ludicrousness of the whole thing.
I just love Metal. I love it all. The bombastity of symphonic, the brutality of death, the rousing choruses of power, the nihilistic evil of black, the pounding atmospherics of doom, the whirling time changes of prog, the faithful familiarity of trad, the other worldlyness of post, the sheer unrefined power of thrash. I love it all!
