Bloodstock : 30 Bands Not To Miss - In Flames
3. In Flames – Ronnie James Dio stage - Friday, August 11th at 18.55
There are few bands that have been as chameleon-like as Swedes In Flames. During their lengthy career, they have been many things to many people. Melodic Death Metal, Groove Metal, Metalcore, Alternative Rock, you name it they have dabbled in it. What is extraordinary about them is that they have done all those various genres impeccably well.
Fourteen albums down the line there is not a duff release to their name. Yes, there will be records and phases that you like more than others, but they seem unable to produce anything that is not of the highest quality.
They also have managed to take the fans from the different incarnations with them. Rather than shedding supporters as they have musically morphed they have just kept on adding to the congregation. What you will find on Friday night is a mass of devotees from across their career. Lovers of the “Clayman” era will stand shoulder to shoulder with those who came in at “Sounds of a Playground Fading” and those who discovered them with “Battles”.
It doesn’t matter when and what your entry point was, what is important is that you have discovered the utter brilliance of this unique and ever-changing band. This is In Flames back at Bloodstock for the first time in Sixteen years. Its going to be special!!
I just love Metal. I love it all. The bombastity of symphonic, the brutality of death, the rousing choruses of power, the nihilistic evil of black, the pounding atmospherics of doom, the whirling time changes of prog, the faithful familiarity of trad, the other worldlyness of post, the sheer unrefined power of thrash. I love it all!
