Bloodstock : 30 Bands Not To Miss - Devils Henchmen
22. Devils Henchmen– New Blood stage – Friday, August 11th – at some point…..
This year we got ourselves out of ROCKFLESH Towers and down to a number of the Metal 2 The Masses events across the North West. To say we have been blown away by the level of talent on show would be an understatement. We have seen bucketloads of fledgling acts that already seem to possess that magical spark. We are also jolly glad we did now as we were constantly falling in love with new bands doing new things with our beloved metal.
The winner of the Merseyside competition particularly took a fancy. Whilst they may well be described as classic metal Devils Henchmen are producing that classic metal through a thoroughly modern lens. We got hints of hardcore, traces of Djent and if they have got a couple of Turnstile albums in their collection they were Dutchmen. But rather than replicate all that stuff, they use it to line and fortify a blistering riff-tastic approach to metal. Big solos, big choruses in a confident songwriting. This is metal you can chew on and they possess a swagger that many other bands spend decades trying to perfect. Well well worth popping a head round tent flap for.
I just love Metal. I love it all. The bombastity of symphonic, the brutality of death, the rousing choruses of power, the nihilistic evil of black, the pounding atmospherics of doom, the whirling time changes of prog, the faithful familiarity of trad, the other worldlyness of post, the sheer unrefined power of thrash. I love it all!
