23. Atavist - 'III: Absolution'

First album in 13 years for the cult British Dòom act that share members with Winterfylleth. They have produced a dark, foreboding monolith of a record that captures perfectly the mood of the 2020. Glacial slow riffs rumble like unworldly thunder as the tracks slowly unfold. It is a creeping claustrophobic record full of menace and intensity. Bleak and uncompromising, this is a thoroughly miserable album for a thoroughly miserable year.
