13. MWWB - "The Harvest"

Realizing that a name like Mammoth Wizard Weed Bastard and a penchant for singing exclusively in the Welsh language were not perhaps the greatest ingredients for commercial success, these Wrexham Doomsters have abbreviated their moniker and produced an astonishingly epic and accessible fourth album. It sounds like Hawkwind played at half-speed. An ethereal and dreamy excursion through the cosmos. It is a delicate and beautiful album full of transcendental tender moments.

It transmogrifies Doom’s tribal pounding into something delicate and fragile. It has a slight, fleeting feel. Like the melodies are barely touching the surface as they pass. For a band with a silly name, they have produced an incredibly astute and mature record. It is reserved and economical, preferring to reveal its inner wonders at a slow unhurried pace. A fantastic album that proves Doom can be subtle and elusive.
