Bloodstock : 30 Bands Not To Miss - Skin Failure
24. Skin Failure– Sophie Lancaster stage – Saturday, August 12th – mid to late afternoon.
When Black Peaks imploded in 2021 there was a collective cry of "Bugger!”. They were responsible some of the most inventive, progressive and downright forward-thinking metal that had been produced in an awful long time, think Mastodon but with a PhD in advanced physics. If we did a sweepstake about what vocalist Will Gardner and bassist Will Larkin would do next then a superfast party thrash band would not have been top of our list.
However out of the ashes of Black Peaks comes the reprehensibly puerile madness of Skin Failure. Describing them as a pound shop Municipal Waste is actually doing them a great service as this is hedonistic thrash on a budget with a side order of urban decay. It's fast, is furious and is rather pissed off with the general state of affairs. There is a level of post-modern irony at play here but is also offset by a great chunk of adoring nostalgia. So if you are after thrash with all the social niceties removed I can't think of a better way to spend 40 minutes of your life.
