17. Massive Wagons - 'House of Noise'
By far and away the most unadulterated fun you will have with any album on this list. It has its tongue firmly lodged in its cheek and is chock full of self-deprecating northern humour. It is source of joyfully abundant glee from first track to last. In fact, this is the big, dumb rock n’ roll record that we all need to distract us from the awfulness of 2020.
Musically, this is Status Quo reimagined for the twenty first century. This is a no-frills record, built on simple but highly effective bluesy, brazen riffs. Playful but still pounding. I have never been so grateful to come across a record as bouncy and as irreverent as this. It is a ray of sunshine in an otherwise dark world.
